These courses are designed for individuals who have limited or no prior knowledge of green building principles, or require a minimum background of the LEED rating system.

+ Introduction to LEED

LEED provides a complete framework for assessing building performance and meeting sustainability goals. LEED emphasizes state of the art strategies for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. LEED recognizes achievements and promotes expertise in green building through a comprehensive system offering project certification, professional accreditation, training and practical resources. This overview presentation discusses the different LEED products and samples some of the more common strategies and credits of the LEED system.

Learning Objectives:
1. Gain an understanding of the market trends that have led to sustainability, and the background of USGBC and the LEED rating system.
2. Gain an understanding of the different LEED products available, and identify the appropriate product to utilize for different buildings.
3. Gain an understanding of various LEED credits, and how to apply them.

+ LEED 2009 Overview

LEED 2009 was released on April 27, 2009 and significant changes have been made to the LEED 2009 system. Join us for this one hour workshop where we will highlight the new LEED products that will soon be available, the major revisions / differences to LEED 2009 compared to LEED v2.2, and also the new LEED AP structure.

Are you currently a LEED AP? Make sure you don't miss this opportunity to find out how the changes will affect your current LEED AP status, including new maintenance requirements. We will also discuss the new LEED AP designations, and which credential is appropriate for different industries.

+ LEED CI Tour at Gensler

As an industry leader in architecture, design, and planning, Gensler seeks to guide through example. The Dallas office is LEED-CI Silver Certified, and is a working example of how sustainable concepts can easily be incorporated into tenant spaces. This tour includes a discussion and demonstration of multiple strategies that contributed not only to its certification but also to the long-term employee well-being and health.

1. Describe multiple sustainable strategies that are applicable to tenant spaces.
2. Identify materials and products that can contribute to a LEED certification.
3. Identify characteristics of a typical employee work station that contribute to employee well-being.

+ LEED NC Tour at Toyota

North Texas is proud to be the home of both the first LEED certified dealership in the world and the first LEED Gold dealership in the world. As an industry leader, Gensler designed both of these dealerships in conjunction with Toyota's Eco-Image USA II initiative, which has an emphasis on the environment. These tours include a discussion and demonstration of multiple strategies that contributed to their certifications.

The tour will take place at either Pat Lobb Toyota in McKinney or Toyota of Rockwall. Both facilities are based on the same prototype design. Attendees are welcome to attend both, but will receive continuing education for only one of the tours.

2. Identify materials and products that can contribute to a LEED certification.
3. Identify materials and products that can contribute to reduced water usage.

+ LEED NC at Brandt Engineering

Using an existing structure, Brandt renovated and incorporated many sustainable features into the design of its facility. With this, Brandt has earned the distinct designation of being a LEED®-Gold certified facility. Our corporate tour high lights 18 eco-features that are displayed throughout the facility. We focused on five LEED categories which are Brandt's areas of engineering and design expertise: Energy Efficiency, Mechanical Innovation, Water Efficiency, Sustainable Site, and Recycling/Reuse.

+ Organizational Sustainability: Implementation and Prioritization

This course provides attendees with the fundamental basics of sustainability, the strategies and the processes for implementation. Typically organizations skip sustainability planning and begin implementing processes such as green building or environmental management systems without an overall sustainability plan. This oversight can lead to organizational discord among those executing the processes, budget/resource conflicts, and limited opportunities for creativity and ultimately success of the program.

Learning Objectives:
1. Establish a scientifically based understanding of the concept of sustainability.
2. Understand the fundamental basis, strategies and processes of a sustainability plan.
3. Synthesize current and future policies and projects within a framework of sustainability.
4. Measure current and future policies against example and case studies presented in green building and LEED implementation.
